Dear Friends,

I am a quiet person.

Witnessing the unfolding changes in the United States and the world with open eyes, I have noticed how “unquiet” and strong my opinions and preferences are regarding present day circumstances. Oh my goodness do I have strong opinions!

Wow! As a self-proclaimed introvert, I have often kept my opinions to myself, retreating into the relative “safety” of anonymity instead of putting myself “out there.” Now, suddenly, I find myself roaring like a lion, writing my congressman, calling my senators, and joining groups of like-minded people. Suddenly, I’ve been called into action! Adrenaline surges. I’m risen, the phoenix in full flame!

Beneath the fire, deep inside, in the silence of my soul, a still, quiet voice speaks, and I’m reminded, on a daily basis, that how I respond to these unfolding circumstances will make all the difference in the world. Will I match anger with anger, righteousness with righteousness, hatred with hatred and bigotry with bigotry? How can I respond in a way that honors my feelings, lets my voice be heard yet also honors differences?

For me, there is only one answer, and that is to meet each circumstance from the resonance of LOVE. This is not the “emotion” of love, or a pink, fluffy romantic love nor a sentimental panacea. When I speak about the resonance of LOVE, I’m talking about the very fabric of our universe, the ground of our being. Call it what you will, God, Spirit, Universe – it does not matter to me. For me, the resonance of LOVE is the core substance of our world, and as such can be quite fierce in its determination to be expressed. For me, LOVE is the most potent force in the universe.

But in the chaos and confusion, how do I know if I am acting from LOVE or personal will? “Personal will, or my will” is often exclusive and limiting. Personal will wants things “my way” regardless of how it impacts others. It is more ego-based and does not listen to others. It makes others wrong.

The resonance of LOVE is inclusive. When I act from LOVE I receive others, listen to their opinions and concerns, understand their stance, validate their feelings, ask questions and make requests. With the resonance of LOVE, I am a bridge, a connector, and the way for LOVE to move the world.

As Gandhi so aptly implied, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

So what is the change I wish to see in the world?

In the words of Rev. Dr. David Ault, in a letter to his congregation, “'We the people' brilliantly reminds that in order to 'form a more perfect union,' every citizen must reclaim their power, their pride, their voice and unite for the common good of all. Not the good for some, but all - all faiths, creeds, colors, genders. It requires commitment and involvement on local, state and federal levels.”

So something inside is calling me to action, to be the embodiment and a voice of LOVE, liberty and justice for all.
