The Early Years

I AM AMAZED!

Ten years ago this month I wrote this little essay on THE ARTIST.  Ten years, and weaving the tapestry of life goes on.

For years I have often said that the only thing that never changes is the fact that everything always changes. And how life has changed in the past decade. Wars come and go.  Nations rise and fail. New plagues arise.  And climate and the earth grow warmer with increasing carbon dioxide as observed by British glaciologist Thomas Chamberlin.

In 1899.

Many are the darker threads being woven into the tapestry of life today: divisiveness, fear, ignorance and worship of ignorance, rage, thirst for the addictive drug of power, and on and on.  Yet look a little closer at the tapestry, and you will see the glorious threads of human kindness, hope, decency, beauty and resilient determination and dedication to just cause.

I’ve worked and traveled in well more than 80 countries on every continent in my long life.  Wherever I have gone I have found that the vast majority of people, of whatever nationality, culture, religion or race, are basically good at heart.  I have searched for beauty and have shared it with many.

This simple web page is designed to carry on that quest, the desire to share the beauty and the richness of what the earth offers us with friends and followers alike.  Of course, since no life is lived without its own pain, loss, injury or illness, there may appear images of a few of those moments too.

Since I am a life-long photojournalist, this site will consist primarily of images, though I will occasionally add comments to share my point of view on various topics of interest.  I hasten to say that these are my points of view only. I am not here to convince or argue with anyone.  I am well aware that every individual constructs his or her own point of view, his own world view, through the lens of personal  unique experience.  Or perhaps all to frequently through absorbing the propaganda of others who promote their own bias in the quest of power, fame or profit.

I owe deep gratitude to my children, Tim Mobley and Tammy Mobley La Drew,  for their encouragement and to Tammy for conceiving this idea and for her technical expertise with the internet and the constantly changing digital world.  She has created this page for me and will help maintain it up to date hopefully well after I have left this world behind.  I hope you all enjoy it.
